County sports partnership Energize is bringing the event back for a second year following its huge success in 2015, as part of the Workplace Challenge programme.
It is being held at The Shropshire Golf Centre in Muxton, Telford, on May 28, when teams of four – which must be made up of three beginners and just one experienced player – will battle for the ‘Swing For Bling Open’ trophy.
All of the golfers who sign up for the challenge will receive four one-hour coaching sessions in the weeks running up to the competition, delivered by PGA professional coaches, with equipment provided.
Helen White, Business Development Officer at Energize, said: “We launched Swing For Bling last year as a fun way to support new golfers, and give them the skills and techniques to get out onto the course.
“It was a great success, so this year we have brought it back bigger and better, including several new initiatives.”
Beginner golfers are invited to attend four ‘Get in to Golf’ coaching sessions at either Shrewsbury Golf Club, Telford Golf and Spa, or Horsehay Village golf course.
And new for 2016, there are also women-only #Thisgirlgolfs introductory sessions being held at The Shropshire Golf Centre.
To qualify for the event, all players must be aged over 16, and working for a business based in Shropshire, or Telford & Wrekin.
They must sign up and register via the Workplace Challenge website www.workplacechallenge.org.uk, a free and fun way to earn points for the sport and physical activity you take part in.
The full programme costs £120 per team of four golfers, to include all coaching, entry into the Swing For Bling Open with refreshments, plus a goodie bag, prizes, and exclusive offers from other local golf courses.
Last year’s competition was won by the team from storage specialists Proplas Sub-Contract Limited in Shifnal, who are hoping to retain their trophy this year.
Spokesman Ron Dean said: “We loved taking part in Swing for Bling last year; it really did make us get out there practicing our golf, and the coaching helped in preparation for the team event.
“The Shropshire Golf Centre was a great venue, and this event is unique because it provides you with the opportunity to get to know your colleagues a little better and network with other workplaces taking part.”
This year’s competition is being sponsored by Shrewsbury-based telecoms company Associated Telecom Solutions.
