The On Your Feet Britain Challenge dares you to take James Brown at his word and convert ‘sitting time’ to ‘standing time’.
Follow some simple changes – it’s easier than you think:
- Stand during phone calls
- Stand and take a break from your computer every 30 minutes
- Use the stairs
- Have standing or walking meetings
- Eat your lunch away from your desk
- Walk to your colleague’s desk instead of phoning or emailing them
- Stand at the back of the room during presentations
So Friday 29th April 2016 is your chance to get the ball rolling and encourage your employees to take a stand. Team up with colleagues and see how much “sitting time” you can reduce on the day. https://getbritainstanding.org/onyourfeet-britain/
Energize are a small organisation of 11 team members. We all try to reduce our sitting time, have lunch breaks away from our desk and take part in team bonding activities together (such as bell boating, walking hockey and lacrosse). We find this really beneficial for our communication across the organisation and all round wellbeing. Essentially this creates a happy, healthy team where team members feel comfortable with each other and are committed to the organisation they work for and its success. In fact, in a recent anonymous staff survey, everyone in our team said that they would highly recommend Energize as a place to work to others, and when comparing our results to the other 44 County Sports Partnership teams in England, Energize came out on top.
Decreasing sedentary behaviour and increasing activity is proven to reduce the number of sick days taken by employees and create more engaged, productive workplaces.
Energize are keen to work with workplaces across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to see how we can implement similar practises and activities at their organisation.
