Shropshire companies are being challenged to ‘Swing For Bling’ in the return of a golf competition for enthusiastic beginners.
The third annual Swing For Bling Open will be held at The Shropshire Golf Centre in Telford on May 26, with teams of four invited to take part.
It is organised by county sports partnership Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, with the support of local golf clubs and coaches, and sponsorship from Associated Telecom Solutions from Shrewsbury.
“The competition is aimed at non-golfers from workplaces across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, who are keen to get into the sport,” said Helen White, business development officer at Energize.
“Teams must be made up of three beginner golfers, plus one experienced player who can act as their captain on the day of the nine-hole competition.”
In preparation for the Swing for Bling Open, the team receives four coaching sessions with PGA qualified coaches at either Shrewsbury, Hawkstone Park, Horsehay, Oswestry, Market Drayton, Ludlow or The Shropshire golf clubs.
Helen added: “The entry fee is £120 per team – which is great value when you consider what is included. Normally, just one golf lesson for one person can cost around £30.
“We launched Swing For Bling in 2015 as a fun way to support new golfers, and give them the skills and techniques to get out onto the course, and it has been a great success.
“It is a leisurely way for people to try the sport, removing the barriers of cost, lack of equipment and knowledge of how to start. Everyone receives a goodie bag, and there are some fantastic prizes up for grabs on the day.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming some new faces this year. The golfers who have taken part in the past two years have described the whole experience as a great introduction to golf, and really enjoyable.”
