Accessibility
We are committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, regardless of technology or ability.
Public Sector Accessibility Standards
As a public sector organisation in the UK, we follow the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, which require adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. This ensures our site is accessible to people with disabilities by meeting requirements across four key areas:
- Perceivable content – including alt text for images,
- Operable interface – such as keyboard navigation,
- Understandable information, and
- Robust content – compatible with assistive technologies.
Our Platform and Accessibility Tools
Our website is built on HubSpot, a platform that supports accessible content. We use this, alongside WCAG 2.1 recommendations, to create an experience that meets our own 9-point checklist for accessibility:
- Alt Text for Images and Tables: All images have descriptive alt-text, and tables are described.
- Colour Contrast: We maintain sufficient contrast between text and background.
- Keyboard Navigation: All content is accessible via keyboard.
- Captions for Videos: All video content, including live streams, is captioned.
- Screen Reader Compatibility: Pages are optimized for screen readers.
- Consistent Navigation: Consistent navigation and a site map are provided.
- Magnifiable Text: Text can be scaled up to 200%.
- Flashing Content: We avoid content that flashes more than three times per second.
- Clear Link Text: Links are clearly labelled with descriptive, actionable text.
