Our Strategy
To one day eliminate inactivity.
An overview of our Strategy
To eliminate inactivity is our long-term vision based on the evidence of how important an active lifestyle is for good physical and mental health.
We also know that the highest positive impact of being active is gained by those who are currently the least active… and this gives us our priority.
Our priority
Our priority is to focus on those who experience the most barriers to achieving an active lifestyle. Over 25% of adults in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin are inactive and more than 33% of children and young people are classed as less active.*
*Statistics are taken from the most recent Sport England Active Lives Surveys: Inactivity for adults is defined as doing less than 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week. Less active for children and young people is defined as doing less than 30 minutes moderate intensity exercise per day.
This means that our efforts and resources will not be equally spread across the county, but rather focused where the need is greatest.
Our goals
Our goals to help us achieve our strategy are:
To tackle inequalities | Focusing our efforts and resources on those who need it most.
To embed & sustain | Supporting relevant organisations to embed physical activity into their culture, policies and futureproofing through workforce education.
To influence system change | Sharing our learning to develop relationships and create opportunities to influence and ultimately change local systems.
Our values
Empowering others to support, influence and advocate for system change and improved opportunity for everyone to be active everyday.
Curious Being curious about what the barriers may be for different communities and the triggers that may help to eliminate inactivity and inequality.
Collaborative Encouraging a truly collaborative approach which recognises the strengths and experiences that all may be able to bring and their capacity to bring about change.
Inclusive Ensuring that we take steps to understand others, welcome the diversity they bring and to encourage an inclusive system.
Influencing system change
Energize works with partners and local organisations within the health, education and community sectors to tackle inequalities, embed sustainable initiatives and ultimately try to create long-term system change. The change we want to see is that activity and the opportunity for an active lifestyle is a real possibility for everyone.
