Market Drayton Tigers FC Hosts Activity Camp
2-MINUTE READ
Background
Market Drayton Tigers FC recently hosted their very first Half Term Activity Camp, welcoming 60 children for a fun-filled morning of sports and activities. The event marked an exciting step forward for the club, showcasing their commitment to being more than just a football club by creating inclusive opportunities for children in the local community.
Lisa Jackson, Chair of Market Drayton Tigers FC, shared her enthusiasm about the event, saying, "It's really positive to have 60 children in attendance today, and we want to be more than just a football club in our community."
How Energize Got Involved
Leah, our Sport Welfare Manager at Energize STW, was invited to join the camp and spent the morning connecting with the Club Chair and Club Welfare Officer. Leah’s involvement highlights the strong partnership between Energize and Market Drayton Tigers FC, focusing on enhancing the club’s welfare initiatives and supporting their mission to positively impact the wider community.
Leah said, "It was great to be invited along to spend my Friday morning with the Club Chair and Club Welfare Officer for their first Half Term Activity Camp. The club is really building on being more than just a football club within their local community. It was great to catch up with their Club Welfare Officer around current initiatives and explore how we can connect even further with upcoming opportunities."

What Happened
The camp offered a variety of engaging sports and activities, providing a safe and supportive environment for children to learn and have fun. The event was supported by several organisations:
-
the Georgia Williams Trust funded the climbing wall from Arthog Outreach,
-
Market Drayton Police (West Mercia Police) funded the Virtual Decisions session,
-
Ciaran Millington Coaching sponsored the football coaching activity, and
-
the 4 All Foundation provided the archery equipment.

The Impact
A highlight of the day was the Virtual Decisions Knife Crime session, which made a lasting impression on the young participants. One child commented, "I found the Virtual Decisions Knife Crime session really enjoyable and I learnt lots."
Amy Clews, Market Drayton Tigers FC's Club Welfare Officer, shared her thoughts on the day: "I couldn’t be more pleased at how the activity day went; it was such a huge success and provided a safe, enjoyable environment for the children during half term, allowing them to experience different sports and physical activities. Having so many children attend on the day was amazing, and I can’t wait for our next youth club day in March."
This successful event demonstrates the positive impact of community-focused initiatives and the power of collaboration in promoting a safe, active, and inclusive environment for young people.
