Commonwealth Games legacy programme

Since the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Gen22 programme has provided nearly 100 young people aged 16 to 24 in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin with life-changing opportunities to boost their employability.

Volunteering connected to physical activity

As part of the Commonwealth Games legacy, Gen22 empowered young people through 30+ hours of social action or volunteering assignments connected to physical activity. This initiative, funded by Sport England and evaluated by Coventry University, was delivered locally by Energize STW in collaboration with five other Active Partnerships across the West Midlands.

The programme focused on helping young people overcome barriers to employment by fostering confidence, skills, and real-world experience.

The Impact
